Create Personalized Coasters To Give To A Family Member

Around holidays and birthdays, people are always searching for something unique and inexpensive to give to loved ones. Here's one idea for a cheap novelty gift. Use photographs to create personalized coasters to give to a family member on their birthday by completing the following instructions. The finished coasters will enhance the recipient's dining area and can be enjoyed on a daily basis.
Materials
- ceramic tiles
- lint-free cloth
- ruler
- photographs
- scissors
- craft glue
- craft stick
- clear varnish
- mixing stick
- paint tray
- foam brush
- felt
- scissors
Attach A Photograph To Each Tile
Wipe the surface of each ceramic tile off with a lint-free cloth to remove any dirt particles. Select the photographs that you would like to attach to the tiles. Use pictures of the individual's family members or ones that depict one of their hobbies or a favorite location that they enjoy visiting. Trim the photographs so that they are slightly smaller than the tiles. Use a craft stick to apply an even layer of craft glue to the back of each photograph. Press one photograph against the surface of each tile. Wait a couple hours for the glue to dry.
Apply Clear Varnish
Stir a container of varnish to eliminate air bubbles. Pour the varnish into a paint tray. Dip a foam brush into the varnish and move the tool across each photograph until an even coat of varnish has been applied. Wait for the varnish to dry. The amount of time that this will take depends upon the thickness of the coats of varnish that were applied. Once the varnish feels dry to your touch, add another coat. The varnish will prevent the pictures from peeling off the tiles and will give the coasters a shiny appearance.
Secure Pieces Of Felt
Use a ruler to measure equal pieces of felt to attach to the corners of each tile. The felt pieces will be placed on the bottom of each tile and will prevent the coasters from scraping a table or another piece of furniture. Cut the pieces of felt and add a few drops of glue to each one. Press the felt pieces to the bottom corners of all the tiles. Wait for the glue to dry. After this occurs, wrap the tiles in some festive paper and give them to your family member who is celebrating their birthday.
Instruct your family member that they can use a damp, soapy cloth to wipe off the coasters when they are dirty. Your family member will appreciate the thoughtfulness of the gift and will think of you each time that they use them.
