Use A Hydroseeder To Help Grow A Lush, Green Lawn

Posted on: 9 February 2015

A hydroseeder is a machine that can be used to evenly spread grass seed, mulch, and fertilizer on your property. This piece of equipment will save you time and will provide you with professional results. A few weeks after using a hydroseeder, healthy grass will be growing and you will be well on your way to having a yard that you will be proud of.

Use The Following Items

  • commercial hydroseeder
  • grass seed
  • fertilizer
  • mulch
  • water
  • rake

Prepare The Land

Remove rocks, sticks, and weeds from the area that you will be planting grass seed on. Once finished, use a rake to collect leaves. The rake will also create shallow indentations that will hold the grass seed and help it to take root.

Add Water, Grass Seed, And Fertilizer

Fill the hydroseeder's tank with water until it reaches the blades. Add grass seed and fertilizer to the tank. Starter fertilizer will provide the grass seed with the nutrients it needs. The amount of fertilizer that you will need to use depends on how large your yard is and the type of grass seed that you are planting. Read the back of the grass seed's package to determine how much you will need to add.

Add Mulch

Mulch needs to be added to the other items before using the hydroseeder. It will provide the new grass seed with protection and will help the seeds remain moist. Place small handfuls of mulch into the tank and turn the agitator on. Once the components have been mixed thoroughly, get ready to spray your yard. Carry the hydroseeder out to the area that you are going to be adding seed to.

Spray Your Property

The hydroseeder will have a hose and nozzle that make applying the mixture easy. Drape the hose behind your neck and point the nozzle towards the ground. Squeeze the trigger from a few inches away. Walk up and down your property in straight lines. Carry or drag the machine behind you, depending on what type of model you are using. Make sure that you cover your property evenly. Spraying each section for a couple seconds is all that is necessary. Once the yard has been covered, you will need to water it for a couple weeks.

Use a garden hose and water the planted section for several minutes, a few times each day. Within a few weeks, you will notice an improvement in how your property looks. Once the grass begins growing well, you will only need to water it when conditions are dry outside. You and your family will be able to enjoy your new lawn each day and your property will look much nicer.
